The opening initiative of the events promoted by BFWE will focus on what currently appears to be the most challenging issue that engages the entire international community: how to ensure the continuity and security of water and energy supplies.
The topic will be tackled by initiating a discussion in which the protagonists of the public and private national and international organisations that, in various capacities, play a leading role in their sphere of operation will be able to explain how this challenge can be faced and overcome from the perspective of the ecological transition and the fundamental drivers that characterise it and on which BFWE is particularly focused: innovation and research, digitalisation and sustainability.ù

On the second day of the "strategic sessions" of BolognaFiere Water&Energy - BFWE - the path along the road to ecological transition continues to dwell on another diriment theme: the present and future of our cities, naturally carbon free.
Again through the lens of innovation and research, digitalisation and sustainability, institutions and companies together with exponents from the world of research will meet to examine, each for their own areas of competence, operational programmes to achieve the underlying objective: to make the cities in which we will live environmentally sustainable. An imperative objective that will also profoundly affect the business logic of private organisations.

LPG, THE ALTERNATIVE FUEL OF THE PRESENT AND FUTURE: ORGANIC AND RENEWABLE DEVELOPMENTS

Among alternative solutions, LPG stands out as the fuel with excellent numbers today in terms of both development and capillarity of the distribution network and of registered and circulating vehicles. But the product's and infrastructure's potential could still be better exploited through ad hoc measures that support consumers who choose LPG from both an environmental and money-saving perspective. Companies are also committed to this path of product enhancement through a strong and concrete interest in developing throughout the value chain the use of bio-LPG, as well as other renewable products such as rDME to be used in blends. The conference will be an opportunity to take stock of the current situation, the potential yet to be fully expressed, and the future of LPG from a bio and renewable perspective.

LOW CARBON LIQUID FUELS IN TRANSPORT: THE IMPACTS ON LOGISTICS AND FUEL DISTRIBUTION

Will the phase-out of the endothermic engine at 2035 envisaged by the Fit for 55 Package really put an end to the development of low-carbon liquid fuels? The European Commission's assessment of the state of the art of low emission fuels, expected in 2026, could change the game and open the way to a different scenario, in which the endothermic engine could continue to play a key role in the process of decarbonising transport. Italy, anticipating this desirable change of pace, has already envisaged specific obligations for the release for consumption of sustainable biofuels to be used in purity, which will come into effect as early as 2023, with the aim of expanding the range of solutions for low-emission mobility. But how will the logistics, distribution and road transport sectors meet this new challenge?

The resulting direct impact is a strong influence on companies and workers, but smart working also redesigns the organisation and timing of cities, mobility and lifestyles. It is a transformation that impacts all companies, which will have to be managed to enhance its relevant aspects. All of this also affects the organisation of the energy network for mobility. How is the sector preparing for these significant changes?

ENERGY FOR MOBILITY OUTLETS: THE ITALIAN NETWORK OF THE FUTURE

The European commitment to decarbonisation and energy transition will lead to a profound transformation of fuel distribution. In order to meet these challenges and at the same time modernise the road network, which is still numerically redundant and characterised by reduced non-oil activity and lower average deliveries than in other European countries, unem member companies have chosen to focus on transforming 'service areas' into 'energy-for-mobility points of sale'. The network of the future that we have imagined is one that is able to offer users quality services, with primary focus on environmental sustainability, the spread of alternative fuels, and supplementary activities both commercial and car and driver assistance.
